London based contemporary jewellery designer Gunilla Karlson's new DarkBird Collection is inspired by birds, Ta Mokos (Maori facial tattoos) and traditional Bavarian hunting jewellery.
With the help of the infamous Armenian filigree master Stepan Terteryan she managed to use the ancient art of filigree to lend fragility and and lightness to the strong, contemporary lines of skulls and wings.
She thus blends jewellery elements of folklore, gothica and rock into a modern, unisex, collection.
Gunilla's previous work has been shown at the V&A and IJL Earls Court London, however it is only now that Gunilla graduated and introduced her DarkBird collection at New Designers to much critical acclaim! So much so, that Gunilla BA (Hons) has recently been chosen as a Licentiate of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, and invitations for exhibitions are pouring in!
